Washington-A well-intentioned effort to lighten the mood in the US Senate led to chaos this morning as a number of Senators simply forgot what they stood for.

Senate majority Leader Harry Reid beckoned his fellow Senators to join him in a game of musical chairs to break the ice, but soon recognized his folly as the game temporarily paralyzed the US government.

“All I know is that when “Night Fever” by the Bee Gees stopped, I forgot if I was pro-life” stated one Senator who asked to remain anonymous. Another Senator explained the issue further: “Usually I just do what the guy sitting on my right does…all of the sudden I’m sitting beside Arlen Spector and I don’t know if I’m going to buy a pro- Sotomayor T-shirt or burn her in effigy”

Several other members of the Senate were seen huddled around a cellphone…it is speculated that they were attempting to reach The Rush Limbaugh Show in hopes of getting some on-air guidance.

Calm returned once all of the Senators were guided back to their seats by their aides. The first order of business with order restored was an amendment to the Standing Rules Of The Senate prohibiting the “playing of any type of children’s game that might require senators to move about the chamber and/or lose visual contact with the group that they think with”. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s Friday games of “Twister” have also been cancelled until further notice.
